State governor discusses disability reforms

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal recently addressed a crowd of disability advocates and supporters at the state capitol. His address highlighted several areas in which state funds may help individuals with disabilities better perform their daily functions. For example, in the case of disabled students, elementary, high school and college classrooms throughout the state might implement accommodations to permit more disabled students to learn alongside their nondisabled peers. Transportation options for the disabled may also be increased.

For pulmonary disorders like cystic fibrosis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, severe cases may require lung transplant surgery. Yet the wait list for such transplants is long. Many patients do not receive a donor in time.
